Jogimatti: the windy hill forest above the city

Rising just south of Chitradurga city, Jogimatti is the highest point in the district and one of its best-loved green spaces. The hill is named after a yogi (jogi) who is said to have meditated here.
Forest and wildlife
The scrub and dry deciduous forest of Jogimatti is protected as a wildlife sanctuary. Visitors may see peafowl and a variety of birds; the forest is also home to animals such as sloth bears and leopards, which are shy and rarely seen.
Wind country
Chitradurga's steady winds have made the district one of Karnataka's important wind-energy regions. From the hilltops you can see long lines of wind turbines across the ridges – the modern counterpart to the old fort walls in the logo of this portal.
Visiting responsibly
- Follow forest department rules and timings.
- Carry back all plastic.
- Do not feed or disturb animals.
